报告题目：“An Appraisal of the Sculptural Decoration of the Temple of Zeus at Olympia; from nascent design to socio-political reinvention.”
报告摘要：The Parian marble sculptures that adorn the Temple of Zeus at Olympia are some of the most famous and most viewed statues of antiquity. It is perhaps their high profile that makes the wide spectrum of their interpretation so surprising and, in light of this, I wish to investigate the original intention of those who commissioned the building's sculptural decoration. Rather curiously, modern interpretations of the sculpture have often been imbued with warnings relating to hubris or violent aggression in relation to foul play, and ensuing justice. In my talk I will question why scholars read any admonitory or negative messages in the sculptural representation and whether their response is an anachronistic appreciation of the evidence arising from their knowledge of later sources or events
